(*This episode is mostly comprised of DHP Eps. 171 & 174, which were originally made & published back in 2018.)

In this DHP Reissue Two-Fer, CJ-in-2018 turns the DHP Heroes spotlight on one of his favorite filmmakers of all time, John Carpenter, best known for the horror & scifi films he made in the last 3 decades of the 20th century.

Join CJ as he discusses:

• The concepts of ‘auteur’ and ‘cult classic’ or ‘cult film,’ and how they apply to Carpenter and his work
• A bit about Carpenter’s early life, upbringing, and time at USC film school
• Coverage and commentary on most of Carpenter’s films, including (but not limited to): Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), Escape from New York (1981), The Thing (1982), Christine (1983), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), Prince of Darkness (1987), They Live (1988), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), & more!
• Common themes and techniques in Carpenter’s films
• Carpenter’s statements about what he believes vs. the ideology that his films portray (which are often quite different)
• Carpenter’s influence on CJ’s worldview, and why Carpenter’s best works have resonated so strongly with him to this day

“SOCJ!” — Save Our CJ (& the DHP!)

Due to events of the past couple months — including Mrs. CJ undergoing yet another spinal procedure the week before last! — CJ has not only been slowed down on multiple DHP projects, but, unfortunately, this has also caused his family to be in an acute financial emergency!

If you’re not in a financial crisis yourself, & you value the DHP & want to help it continue, (and/or if you care about CJ & want to help him out), please consider sending him a few bucks or quid or doubloons or denarii or whatever!

Many thanks to the amazing individuals who sent in contributions over the last couple weeks since DHP Ep. 292 was published – it was a huge help! Unfortunately, I still need a bit more help getting caught up on some essential bills ASAP, so please consider donating!https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=D6VUYSYQ4EU6L Thank you! – CJ
